Twincan is a voice-note app for exactly two people, made by Chris Messina. This policy describes everything it does with your information. It is short because Twincan does very little with your information.
What Twincan stores, and where
Voice notes. Recordings you make are stored on your device and, when you send them, in your personal iCloud account (CloudKit). When your can is strung to another person, sent notes live in a shared CloudKit zone that only the two of you can access. Apple encrypts CloudKit data in transit and at rest.
Transcripts and titles. Transcription and note titling happen entirely on your device using Apple's on-device speech and language models. Transcripts are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded.
Your name and photo. If you set a profile photo, it is shared only with the one person your can is strung to, through the same shared CloudKit zone.
Read receipts. When you play a received note, a timestamp is written back to the shared zone so the sender's app can show the note was heard.
What Twincan does NOT do
No accounts. Twincan uses your existing iCloud identity; we never see your password, email, or phone number.
No servers of ours. Twincan has no backend. Your data moves through Apple's iCloud infrastructure under your own Apple ID.
No analytics, tracking, advertising, or telemetry of any kind.
No access to your contacts database. Choosing an invite recipient uses Apple's out-of-process contact picker; Twincan receives only the single name you pick.
No sale or sharing of data with anyone, because we do not have it.
Microphone and speech
Twincan requests microphone access to record voice notes, and speech-recognition access to transcribe them on your device. Both are used only while you use those features. Nothing recorded or transcribed leaves your device except the voice notes you explicitly send.
Unstringing and deletion
Unstringing your can removes the received notes on your device and disconnects the shared zone. Deleting a note removes its audio and transcript from your device and, for sent notes, from the shared zone. Deleting the app removes all local data; iCloud data can be removed by unstringing first, or via iCloud storage management.
Children
Twincan is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
